BUYING USED FARM EQUIPMENT: NEEDLE IN THE HAYSTACK
Pretty darn tough to find that particular piece of used farm equipment you've been looking for, isn't it? Been this way now for little over a year. Just aren't many farm auctions around and the level of good used equipment on implement dealers' lots is way down. New equipment is pre sold out so far in advance that the demand for good used equipment is super (super duper) high right now. Which explains in great part why interested buyers are having to search over a much wider geographic region to find the equipment they're looking for now. Which brings me to our "auction locator" database. I think most folks think all I do is compile auction sale prices after the fact, what's all that used equipment worth? Yep, I do track sale prices, but we also have a huge searchable database of all types of farm & construction equipment available on UPCOMING AUCTIONS in our web site too, in our "auction locator". This is a free service for all our auctioneer friends, whenever they have upcoming auctions with equipment, they let us know and we input the equipment on their sale(s) into the "auction locator" database here in our web site. The cool part? As a user, you don't need to dig through sale bills looking for that exact item....you just click on HAY BALERS / NH / 644 and up pops all the NH 644 balers we show on upcoming auctions around the US & Canada. Our staff updates this info daily, so users just keep poking back in couple times a week to see if any new ones have been listed. Easy as pie.

Speaking of NH 644 round balers, just today (Aug. 12th), I got a sale bill for a very nice farm auction in north-central Ohio on August 30th. Featured on this auction by my friend Steve Andrews is a NH 644 round baler. Some other items on this auction include: JD 6420 MFWD tractor (90 HP) with cab & only 300 hours; NH 1465 9-foot haybine (like new); NH 565 small square baler (limited use); Exiss STC 7'x20'x7' aluminum stock trailer; 2006 JD 332 skid steer with 84-inch material bucket, 1185 hours; JD Gator 6x4; Befco 266 3pt. roto tiller; JD TR 60 trencher (skid steer mount); Lincoln Ranger 8 portable generator/arc welder. If interested in any of this equipment, give Steve Andrews a buzz at 330-466-5471.

    * MEET MACHINERY PETE AT FARM PROGRESS SHOW AUG. 26-28 *
I'll be a guest speaker at the FIRESTONE TIRES booth at the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa, August 26-28th. I'll be doing little 1/2 hour presentations each day of the show at 9 am, 11 am and 2 pm. Stop on out to the Firestone booth to say "hi" if you'll be attending the show. I'll have some handouts highlighting the crazy high auction sale prices I've been seeing here in 2008. I'll have my laptop with and will be connected to our web site so I can answer any used machinery ?'s you may have...."hey Pete, what's my 1971 JD 4020 with 3500 hours worth?". Should be fun! Oh, one more thing, a little secret......attend one of my machinery talks at the Firestone booth and I'll even provide you with a free set of access codes to log into our web site & poke around for a few days, no charge.

    * CATCH MACHINERY PETE ON RFD-TV EACH WEEK *
The "Successful Farming Machinery Show" airs every Thursday at 7 pm CST on RFD-TV. If you have Directv, RFD-TV is channel 379. RFD-TV is also on the Dish Network and a growing # of regional cable outlets. If your cable company doesn't carry RFD-TV, give them a buzz and let 'em know they need to look at carrying THE cable channel for rural America. My "Machinery Pete" segment on the 1/2 hour weekly show is just me yakking about recent trends in the used farm equipment market, highlighting auction sale price data of note from around the country. Tune in and give us a look! Season 2 new episodes begin airing fist week of September '08.
