Stronger Auction Prices on Combines this Spring

April 18, 2017

The Avg. Auction Price on 2012 John Deere S660 Combines last year was $141,810, that was down 8.2% from the Avg. Auction price in 2015 on 2012 model S660's ($154,556). Despite those sliding used values, in just the past six weeks I've seen some much stronger auction sale prices on good condition used combines.

Including a pair of John Deere S660's.

Below is a pic of  a 2012 model S660 sold on a farm auction last Friday (April 14, 2017) in east-central Michigan. It was nice shape and had 822 engine hours on it. It sold for $172,500.

$172,500 is a very strong auction sale price on a 2012 model S660. So strong in fact, after checking our auction sale price data, I found $172,500 to be the highest auction price on a 2012 model S660 in 27 mo. Here's a look at the Highest auction sale prices on 2012 model S660's going back to January 2015:

I saw a similarly very strong auction sale price six weeks earlier on 2013 model S660 combine sold on a March 4, 2017 farm auction in northeast Ohio. That 2013 model had 924 engine hours on it and sold for $190,000, making it the highest auction sale price on a 2013 model S660 combine in 15 mo. Here's a picture of it.

These are just a pair of examples highlighting a trend I've been observing going back to the first week of November 2016...very good condition used farm equipment attracting strong bidding interest and top prices at auctions all over North America.

I know this can seem confusing given the current challenging ag economy, but if folks aren't buying new equipment....more of the demand is shoved into the used market, particularly the market for the best condition used equipment items, like the pair of John Deere S660 combines highlighted here.
