Prototype IHC 3688 Trator For Sale Saturday on Wisconsin Auction

March 16, 2017

When it comes to used tractors the word "Prototype" never fails to grab folks' attention.

So it is with the Prototype IHC 3688-TX184 tractor for sale Saturday (March 18, 2017) on a farm auction in Monroe, WI. I had four or five folks drop me notes about this tractor the past two weeks...."Pete, did you see this one coming up for sale?" Yes, and I'm very interested to see what it will go for Saturday. Here's a picture of the tractor:

The sale bill (http://bm-auctions.com/brett-and-brittney-newman-and-dan-and-jody-holland-farm-machinery-equipment-and-feed/) shows the tractor has 3,941 hours and was overhauled at 1,800 hours. Today I talked with owner of the tractor, Dan Holland.

"I bought it in 2000 from Otter Implement in Burlington, Wis.," said Holland. "I was with my son Daniel visiting Parkside University and we stopped to eat at Pizza Hut and the dealer was across the street."

Every good tractor story should include a Pizza Hut reference.

"The dealer had overhauled it just before I bought it," said Holland. "It's serial number 501, 1 of 5 prototypes made. All the 3688's doors open like the 86 Series, but the prototype doors open like Magnums. All the other 3688's you shift gears down on the left, but in this prototype the shift is high on the right."

Holland explained the one other prototype difference, "The center of the steering wheel has a push button key pad bar across it, but it doesn't turn when the wheel does. We've scraped our knuckles on it a lot over the years."

Holland has a copy of the May/June 1996 issue of Red Power Magazine where this tractor was featured and written up, four years prior to his buying it from the dealer in Burlington, Wis.

"People have been coming just wanting to see it," said Holland. "Couple times over the years I've thought about selling it, but never did."

Saturday is the day. We'll find out what this prototype IHC 3688 tractor is worth. Stay tuned. Just for perspective, here's a look at the 5 highest auction sale prices I've seen on IHC 3688's over the years:
