(20) AUCTION SALE PRICE REPORTS IN LAST FEW DAYS Wow. I can't believe all the sale price data that is flowing into our office here this week! I just counted this afternoon and we've had sale price reports from (20) different auctions, from all around the country, come in. I've been busy last night and today after getting back from my roadtrip to Missouri this week, working on getting all this sale price data into our "auction results" database.
Looking at all this fresh sale price data....just becomes more apparent to me that USED FARM EQUIPMENT VALUES HAVE SHOT UP A BIT since July 1st. Just the more + commodity price trends I suppose. If I were a betting man....I'd watch for this trend to continue right through the end of 2010.
STRONG AUCTION PRICES....EVEN FROM AREAS WITH POOR CROPS This fact has honestly surprised me a bit here the last 3-4 weeks. Back on July 16th I traveled south of Des Moines, IA to cover and film a farm auction for our "Machinery Show" on RFD-TV. Corn just looked sickly in central/south central Iowa last month. No wonder with ALL the constant rain. Despite the crop conditions, sale prices on the auction were very solid I thought. This week I was down near Hannibal, MO (northeast MO) shooting another auction for the TV show. Once again, crops didn't look too great. In fact, the first guy that came up to visit with me at the auction Tuesday (Aug. 24th) was a local farmer who playfully instructed me...."don't film the beans." Once again, despite poor corn & soybeans, sale prices on the Hannibal, MO auction were strong for the most part. Here's visual proof, video I shot Tuesday of a new record high auction sale price on the 2006 EZ Trail 510 grain cart sold on this Sullivan Auctioneers sale:
I will be posting more video highlights from this northeast Missouri farm estate auction soon, so check back. I'll have video of a nice line of older IHC combines selling....1981 IHC 1440 4WD with 2561 hours, 1977 IHC 915 4WD; IHC 815, IHC 503; IHC 303. Fun to see these older but nice condition red combines sell Tuesday. There was also an IHC 863 6-row corn head that sold pretty high I thought. Again, check back for more video highlights.
OVER 130,000 "VIEWS" ON YOUTUBE VIDEOS NOW Wow, I can't believe how our "Machinery Pete" Youtube video channel has taken off. I started posting these little videos last August and now (today) we just passed 130,000 "views". I've posted (106) different videos and have plans to keep cranking 'em out. When I was down in Higginsville, MO giving a talk Wednesday evening to subscriber Gary Riekhof's "Crop Insurance Solutions" agency's client group, I talked about I think this auction video adds another layer of CONTEXT to our data.....ok, here's Machinery Pete showing the last (43) JD 8420 tractors that have sold at auction around the U.S. & Canada, but how very cool to be able to "click" and see for yourself that last one sold just the other day. You can soak up a LOT by watching the auction footage I think....how big was the crowd? Did the tractor look clean? Did all the other equipment look nice? Was the bidding crisp, or lathargic? What did the auctioneer say or stress in their auction call? How did the corn/beans/wheat look in that auction area? Like I say, you can just pick up a lot of valuable insight with this video......plus it's just time saving fun.....no need to drive 2-3 states away to check out that sale, just check Pete's video highlights :-)
JD 8420 TRACTORS: HOW HAVE THEY BEEN SELLING? Ok, I brought up JD 8420 tractors...so while I'm on the subject, let's look at JD 8420 values. I got thinking along this line when I got a sale price report recently from my friend Bob Daily with Daily Auction Co. of Colo, IA. Bob had a real nice farm auction on July 30th in east-central Iowa. On this sale was a 2005 JD 8420 MFWD tractor with 1940 hours, good condition, sold for $117,000. How does that sale price compare? See for yourself, here are a few other JD 8420's I've seen sold at auction recently:
2002 model, 4771 hours, good, sold 6/15/10 on Bigiron.com online sale, Idaho: $83,750
2002 model, 2808 hours, good, sold 3/17/10, west-central MN: $111,000
2002 model, 1622 hours, excellent, sold 2/11/10, northeast MO: $116,000
2005 model, 1940 hours, good, sold 7/30/10, east-central IA: $117,000
2002 model, 2176 hours, good, sold 2/28/09, west-central IL: $111,000
2003 model, 2374 hours, good, sold 3/11/09, southeast ND: $102,500

2005 model, 1860 hours, good, sold 2/17/09, northeast NE: $126,000
2005 model, hours?, excellent, sold 9/10/09, northeast IA: $135,000
2005 model, 1000 hours, excellent, sold 12/2/09, north-central IA: $139,000
Now you KNOW what JD 8420's have been selling for. Can this info/data be helpful to you when buying/selling/trading/appraising used equipment?.........I sure hope so!
